Harper Continues To Mislead Canadians On EI Issue

HARPER CONTINUES TO IGNORE THE PLIGHT OF THE UNEMPLOYED

The Primie Minister of Canada in a big hearted way told millions of Canadians this week that they are getting plenty of help from the EI system and that most people who apply for EI are eligible for EI which is completely contrary to what Stats Canada has to say about the situation.
In a report released by Statscan they state that only 58% of persons who have applied for EI are eligible to receive benefits under any conditions.
The reason for that is simple. Many persons are self-employed or are working on a contractual basis which prevents them from accessing EI wage replacement services.
The Liberal party has asked the Prime Minister and his governing CONservative party to re-open EI and reform the program to make it so more people meet the eligibility requirements until the recession is over.
The Prime Minister says that is only another tax grab against business, and that he is not interested in helping those people who are not eligible under the current programs that are available.
Any monies utilized for this EI program would undoubtedly find its’ way through the economy faster than any stimulus package the government could possibly come up with as the recipients would spend those dolars in their local economies which would stimulate business activity and growth at this point.
Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff has said repeatedly that if the “reformatories” do not listen to the people that he will take the issue to the polls and let the people decide what to do with EI and the Harperites.
