I Remember The Party Line…….

The CONservative government of Stephen Harper has decided that they should introduce legislation that would allow police and government agencies to monitor all electronic communications in Canada for possible evidence that people are talking about them.(which is likely…we are all talking about what a terrible job they are doing on our dime)
Now when I was a kid growing up on a farm in North Oxford we used to have a thing called the party line. No, not one of those 1-900 lines that breathes heavy into your ear for 7 minutes at a cost of $30, but a line that involved several neighbours sharing one telephone system that all had seperate rings. Some of you may be familiar with that system.
One ring for the Bender house, 2 for the Stocks’ and 2 longs and one short for the Nicolaus family.
There was always a concern that one should not say anything as one of those neighbours spent a large amount of time listening in to all of the calls that came in no matter whose calls they were. My mother would always remind me…don’t say anything that what’s her name down the road might repeat to anyone.
Quite often for shits and giggles we kids would say silly things…which ultimately would be repeated to every soul this old lady neighbour knew. We would then tell everyone that we have no idea what the crazy old bat was saying and that she must be nuts in the head…which was fairly close to the truth.
So I kind of look at things this way.
If you don’t want the government to hear about your secret plans for world domination…then shut the hell up, don’t use the internet, and don’t use your cell phone…otherwise you are just asking for trouble.
Considering that Stephen Harper is such a control freak I see this issue as an extension of that control freak mentality…being extended over the entire nation with a complete and utter focus on removing one of the last bastions of personal freedom that Canadians have.

“decided that they should introduce legislation that would allow police and government agencies to monitor all electronic communications in Canada”

You think they’re not already doing it? Hell, the Americans have been monitoring the whole planet for years. All this will do is formalize what our government has been doing to us for god knows how long.

It is interesting that our so-called Libertarian minded PM is the one introducing state condoned listening at keyholes though. If he moves any farther to the left he’ll have to ask Layton to move over.

BTW: First it’s the nose blowing post. Now it’s the nose/colon post. What’s next? Have researchers discovered that the pressure created by blowing your nose is actually back vented through the colon?

I hope you enjoy a little competition. I will be running against you in the next election.
My main focus is your record and your support for that criminal Sgt Elaina Taylor and Ron Fraser.
    Best of luck.
I won’t win, but the race will be the most exciting in the history of Woodstock.
