Human Resources Minister Claims That EI Is "Lucrative"

Sometimes one must wonder why some people are nominated and then elected into public positions  and in this case I really wonder who would want this person on their team?
Diane Finley, the Minister in charge(but not responsible)for Human Resources in Canada has come out against persons who were layed off by stating that she opposes making EI a “lucrative” thing for unemployed people and that she is against paying people to sit at home on their duffs even though those persons paid for the unemployment insurance for which they have applied.
Her opinion is a stark contrast to her other opinion that bailouts for business are good.

That story ALMOST sounds like a “Weekend Update” story from SNL… Do these people really have their heads THAT far up their own asses?

If she was talking about welfare fraudsters it would make some sense but to make a statement like that in reference to people who WANT TO WORK and have lost their jobs is beyond reason.

This was no slip of the tongue. This was a clear premeditated statement that shows the woman is completely out of touch with reality. She should be removed and replaced with someone that has some idea of what it’s like to actually have to work for a living.

This will cost her in the next election campaign. I suspect the unemployed in her riding will be voting “anything but CPC”

…the above is, of course, predicated on Jim’s version of Finley’s statement. No attribution or link to a complete quote in context was supplied.

I would love to hear her say how lucrative EI is” in a room filled with unemployed people, especially those that don’t qualify for it after paying into it.

Also, if I heard her correctly, she said during QP (last Friday), that she didn’t want people to collect EI and sit at home and drink beer.

That link is older than the garbage you have posted. Dianne has worked efficiently through many difficult issues. She never backs down from an issue.

‘That link is older than the garbage you have posted.”

So what? Is that supposed to mean something? It’s a whole 9 days old. I guess that means she never said it?

As for her “never backing down from an issue” you neglected to add “whether she’s right or wrong.” You make it sound like being pig-headed and ignorant are virtues.

Her statement is right up there with Marie Antoinette’s “let them eat cake.”
