Be Careful Around ATM’s In The Region

According to a police report, a Woodstock person noticed an odd black box hanging above an ATM in a local bank one evening and as well had her card read by an illegal card reading device that was mounted over the existing ATM terminal in the bank.
Police are telling people to pay attention to your surroundings, and to examine all ATM’s before inserting your card. As well, if it looks suspicious to you, it probably is, so call the police and let them know what you’ve seen if you’ve seen anything strange.
Police are looking for the person(s) responsible for this latest fraud attempt.
PS>>>Does anyone ever wonder why VISA and AMEX and MC do not use PIN numbers in conjunction with their cards? I think personally that would help to reduce fraud as well.

The new chip cards have a PIN that must be inputted before the transaction completes– I have one of these now, but many retailers who have chip-ready machines aren’t using the chip feature, where you leave the card in the handheld PINpad until after you enter your PIN.
Ask your bank when you’re getting your chip-enabled card.
