WalMart Closes Recently Unionized shop

GATINEAU TIRE SHOP OWNED BY WALMART SUDDENLY CLOSES DOORS AFTER SUCCESSFUL UNIONIZATION VOTE
Customers were left standing outside of a Walmart tire shop empty handed in Gatineau, Quebec after Walmart company officials from Arkansas closed the shop in reponse to the unionization of its’ workforce.
The Arkansas-based retailer is blaming increased operating costs in relation to increased wages for the closing.
The largest retailer on earth(and no doubt the wealthiest)decided that they couldn’t afford to pay people a decent living wage although the owners of Walmart are filthy rich beyond description.
The base pay for Walmart employees in that location had been $8.50 an hour, but with the union rate increase, base wages increased to $11.54 per hour, and Walmart claims that they couldn’t make nearly enough money(that’s right, not nearly enough from the backs of the poor) from those slave..err workers.(even though the tire and lube shops make a killing for Walmart)
Me,I own a small shop, and employ a few people. The starting rate in my retail shop is $11.00 per hour. I do not own 1/1000th of what one share of Walmart stock is worth, and I’m sure my wealth could fit into the toilet bowl of one Walmart family member…but I do know that paying my employees slave like wages while expecting them to perform like professionals is absolutely stunned, and good sales do not come from people who cannot afford to eat or to shelter themselves.
This is one more reason why government needs to impose a minimum wage across the country of at least $11.00 an hour to start. People just cannot afford to live on those minimum pay slave wages.
Shame on Walmart and their disrespect for Canadian workers.

Why whine to government about WalMart’s business practises? You got a problem? DO something about it.

Consumers have given WalMart an overwhelming mandate to continue conducting business as usual.

There’s only one way to send a message to WalMart. Stop shopping there!

You don’t own 1/1000 of what one share of Walmart stock is worth?

Walmart is currently trading at about $53.72 on the NYSE, so you don’t own a nickel’s worth of assets?

I know you’re eager to criticize big bad Walmart, but seriously, do a bit of research before making outlandish claims.

Are you too stunned yourself to see the huge flaw in your argument? If Walmart paid too little such that their service sucked wouldn’t that mean that little guys like you should be able to out-compete them for business? Calling on the government to force Walmart to pay better wages just sounds suicidal on your part, assuming you’re correct on the service thing.

Still, how about we send in a government agent and force a 40% wage hike on your business? I bet you’d love that knowing that your employees are now better able to support themselves, and that is the point of your business, right?

You are right, it is much better to keep people poor as it is cheaper than importing slaves.

Minimum wage is a sticky issue. If you increase it dramatically you create inflationary pressures that drive up prices and ultimately the minimum wage earner is no better off than before. Have you noticed that when minimum wage goes up so does the price of goodies at Tim’s? That applies across the board. Increase the cost of labour and prices go up. Net improvement, zero.

The alternative is an economy completely regulated by government. If you want to know how well that works read some accounts of life in the good old Soviet Union or Cuba.

Blah Blah Blah I think people should get paid to live. But Sorry people at Walmart don’t do great customer service and if they do there should be a guild line of what is good enough. For example if it were really to live off of for adults with no education and with a family they should be trained and allowed to finish school plus not feel bad for trying. Plus they should have the choice of shift and not demanding flexie shifts around X mas. Walmart hires students I’m sorry but they know nothing about life yet. Yes they should pay better but be more selective in who they hire that will help the community grow. They shouldn’t be greedy but hey have you ever ran a business where your own staff hated you? Now that is a shame and yes they should leave or be fired. I don’t blame Walmart. Think about it there are people who are still getting paid 8.5 to only 10 for general lab our and that is a lot harder than what people at walmart do for a living. So just be happy you even still all have jobs.
