Some very lovely pictures that really tell you the story of why we need a new art gallery…yeah right.

From the photos I’d say the study isn’t the only thing that’s ancient.

Those photos look like they were taken at the South Gate Senior’s Centre. Where are the kids? Where are the young adults? If the classes are predominantly for seniors why not just hold them at South Gate? I’d like to see some numbers broken out by age group to see just who is enrolled in these classes.

All I’ve heard about is the poor kids who are being deprived of art classes. It looks like they’re deprived because a bunch of middle aged hobbyists are filling all the spaces.

Where are the photos of the kids classes? If there are any kids.

Thats right. There are no kiddies. They are off playing Wii/gameboy/nintendo/game cube/360/xbox or anything other than manual hand skills.

Exactly. That’s why voluntary programs like those that are supposedly available at the gallery are pointless. What’s the point of dragging kicking screaming kids to a rec program they have no interest in?

All children should be exposed to art, afforded the opportunity to discover if they have artistic talent and allowed to develop that talent if they wish. That’s why art should be part of the regular curriculum in public school.

Giving money to a bunch of elitist, backwoods art fanciers isn’t the answer. Let’s put more money where it belongs, in education.
