Is Canadian Food Security About To Be Sold Off By Stephen Harper?

The Government of Stephen Harper is preparing to hand over legal authority for food inspections, labelling and standards setting to INDUSTRY!
Luc Pomerleau a federal government scientist(with what the government says is a completely unblemished record of work) was fired over his alleged ‘leaking” of information that was previously posted on the Canadian Food Inspection Agencys’ website.(just how does one leak something that has been leaked already???)
The information detailed plans by the CFIA to hand over the adminstration of its’ programs dealing with food quality, labelling(you know..canada choice..all that stuff)and recalls to the food conglomerates in this country.
When elected the Harper government demanded that each ministry and federal organization find 5% savings which then would be used to prop up some of Harpers’ other pet programs…or what he calls…priorities.
The CFIA came up with a plan that would see the onus placed on industry for the quality of food in Canada.
Basically, industry will be taking over their jobs….and Canadians will just have to hope for the best.(or hope that we don’t end up eating melamine chips that these big industries have used for fillers in our food products that they are having made in China)
So, what is the point of the CFIA now that they have been effectually denutted by Stephen Harper? There is no point.
Harper could easily find 100% savings in that area now that these people have nothing to do. He might as well just fire them all instead of maintaining this organization that has no teeth or mandate to operate.
I imagine the big savings Harper is expecting will come at the expense of us.
Thank goodness he’s looking out for us!

They will apply the savings to hiring food tasters for MPs and their staff.

Industry has been self governed for more than 10 years now.Thank yourselves for that.
